Five people from three markets in one week — Melrose Trading Post, Distress Fest and ComplexCon.

Five people from three markets in one week — Melrose Trading Post on Sunday, and before that Distress Fest and ComplexCon on the Saturday.
No ranking, no scores. These are the ones that held up when we went back through the week's photographs.
A black midi against the rose wall
Melrose Trading Post, 4 October.
A black puff-sleeve midi with a leopard-print cap, a camera bag worn across the body and flat sandals. Every piece here is doing less than it could, and that is the point — the dress is the only shape in the outfit, so nothing else has to be.
Patchwork denim, and nothing else
Melrose Trading Post, 4 October.

Melrose, Los Angeles
A plain white ribbed tank over wide patchwork denim. The trousers are the whole outfit and they are allowed to be: a second patterned piece would have turned them into part of a scheme instead of the reason for one.
A camera and a rack of Marlboro denim
Melrose Trading Post, 4 October.
A loose graphic tee over black wide-leg trousers, shot in front of a rail of Marlboro-print denim jackets. The tee and the rack behind it are both prints from the same decade, and the black trousers are what stops the frame becoming a collage.
Tan trousers at Distress Fest
Distress Fest, East Hollywood, 3 October.
A distressed black top over wide tan trousers, a jacket carried rather than worn. The silhouette is wide at the leg and quiet everywhere else, which is the version of this proportion that survives being photographed indoors.
A striped shirt and a flare
ComplexCon, Downtown LA, 3 October.
An oversized striped linen shirt worn open over a tee, with mid-blue jeans that flare slightly at the hem. In a hall full of logos this was the outfit with none, and it read louder for it.
