A Sublime Tee and a Pair of Puddling Jeans

Her jeans are the point. They start at the natural waist and widen the whole way down, ending in a break so long the hem is folding on the ground. Against that, the tank is small, fitted and printed with little pink hibiscus — the counterweight doing exactly what a counterweight does.

The details are all small and all deliberate: a silver butterfly clip holding back a pink-streaked front section, a plush charm hanging off a belt loop, a black cardigan carried rather than worn because it is far too warm for it.

He is in the opposite arrangement — the volume is on top, a bleach tie-dye band tee gone soft and slightly too big, over plain black shorts. The tee is the only patterned thing he is wearing.

They are holding hands and both looking off at different stalls, which is what people actually do at a flea market.
